Lettera Invito

13 November 2006

P. James F. Puglisi, S.A.
Direttore

of the beginnings of the Pentecostal Movement 1906-2006
organized by the Centro Pro Unione

Wednesday 29 November 2006 - Rome

Centro Pro Unione - Via S. Maria dell’Anima, 30 - 1st floor

MORNING SESSION: ACADEMIC EXCHANGE 9.00 - 12.30

Specialist exchange between some Lecturers and a select audience of church leaders, ecumenists, teachers. Each lecturer will have 20 minutes at his/her disposal to present the assigned theme after which a debate with the public opens.

Some Listeners will be invited to identify real challenges, new convergences or unresolved points of divergence that emerge in the morning discussion.

The themes to be treated are the following:

- Ecumenical Perspective: what are the specifics of the dialogue with Pentecostals and the important elements to be gleaned from this experience for the formulation of a general ecumenical model (Msgr. Juan Usma Gomez, Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Vatican City);

- Anthropological Perspective: if they exist, what are the epistemological criteria for distinguishing a gift of the Holy Spirit from other phenomena (paranormal, religious phenomena, etc.) (Dr. Ruth Burgess, Missouri State University, Missouri);

- Pneumatological Perspective: from the Catholic and Pentecostal perspective, this session will outline a possible “genealogy of the manifestations of the Spirit” (fruits, gifts, charism in the Pauline lists, grace of baptism, Baptism in the Holy Spirit) (Rev.Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, ofm cap, Preacher of the Pontifical Household; Dr. David Cole, Eugene Bible College, Oregon);

- Moral Perspective: moral standards in the churches and in the public forum (Dr. Bruce Williams, op, Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome).

AFTERNOON SESSION:
ECCLESIAL EXCHANGE 16.00 - 19.00

The afternoon session is addressed to the same participants as the morning in addition to a wider public participation including ecclesial agents (students of theology, pastoral agents, representatives of ecclesial movements).

The sessions opens with the intervention of the “Listeners” from the morning session, who will have 10 minutes each to present a synthesis of the debate among the specialists held in the morning, as well as steering up debate with the wider public audience. The afternoon program will be partially in Italian and partially in English.

The synthesis of the morning session will be presented by the following “Listeners”:

- Dr. Thomas Best, Faith and Order Commission of the WCC, Geneva;

- Dr. Stanley Burgess, Regent University, Virginia;

- Maggiore Massimo Paone, Salvation Army, Italy;

- Rev. Msgr. John Radano, Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Vatican City;

- Dr. Charles Whitehead, International Charismatic Consultation, London;
