The
largest building at Graymoor, standing eight stories on one side and five
on the other, St. Pius X Building was dedicated by Francis Cardinal Spellman
of New York in 1960 to honor the Pope who had welcomed the Society of the
Atonement into full communion in the Catholic Church. Originally built as
a seminary, the building holds a chapel dedicated to Rafael Cardinal Merry
del Val, Secretary of State in the time of St. Pius X, and another to St.
Pius X himself. The latter contains stained glass windows to saintly scholars,
including one to Franciscan Blessed John Duns Scotus. The building now houses
the Graymoor Spiritual Life Center, which conducts retreats and workshops,
living quarters of the Friars, General Administration offices and an archives
and record center. St. Pius X Building has been the site of many ecumenical
and interreligious events throughout the years. |
