Welcome to the Centro Pro Unione Library
The library of the Centro Pro Unione is a place for study and research in ecumenism. With the aid of Mr. Ans van der Bent, librarian of the World Council of Churches, and Prof. Harding Meyer, theologian of the Lutheran World Federation outside consultants, the library was established at the end of 1969, thanks to Father Daniel O’Shea, SA, first librarian of the Centro. From its inception, the Centro Pro Unione has work in collaboration with other Roman libraries interested in interconfessional affairs, in particular the Waldensian Faculty of Theology and the Anglican Centre.
The library houses approximately 22,500 volumes and 400 periodicals spaning the disciplines of ecumenism, the theology of Christian confessions as well as their history, liturgy, spirituality. The library offers significant collections of ecumenical theology, the history of ecumenical movement, Vatican II, the WCC, and an exhaustive documentation of the interconfessional theological dialogues.
The library compiles and maintains a comprehensive bibliography related to the interconfessional theological dialogues. The bibliography currently contains more than 28,000 records and is up-dated in real time daily.
All of the library's materials can be researched in the on-line catalogue.
Since 1991 the Centro Pro Unione Library is a member of URBE, the network of the Pontifical Universities in Rome, and since 2003 is a member of the American Theological Libraries Association (ATLA).
